DR Quality

I have a new Fender American Deluxe Jazz V (Alder/Maple) that I had setup and put SS Lo Riders on (45-65-85-105-125). Once the DRs settled in, it sounds great (though they are a little tight for my taste).

When I picked it up from my tech, he said DR's quality control is usually lacking and that he has noticed he gets more bad/bum strings on average from DR than from most other manufacturers.

What is your experience?

I should note that I did have an odd harmonic/overtone thing going on with the B and E strings, but once the SS Lo Riders settled in, it disappeared and left only great tone.

I tried them for a while. I didn't find them any better or worse than anything else. I did not like the rough feel of stainless steel strings and the Hi-Beams I was tried were way to bright for my taste. There was nothing negative about the quality of the product.

had one set with a bad string. DR replaced the set free of charge. I think those wer Light Sunbeams. I go through an average of a set of DR Nickel Low Riders every two months or so and have been using them for about 3 years now. Haven't had a problem since.

I periodically use different strings on basses depending on availability and had QC issues with several with the exception of D'addario. The XL's are some great inexpensive backup strings. I do use them frequently on project basses or friends basses I setup. They have a good feel and ok sound. And are fairly consistent from string to string.

Every string from my first two sets of Lo-Riders was perfect. They lasted 3-4 times longer than a typical set of strings do for me. This set (my 3rd) that I have on my Jaguar seems to have died much faster than the other two sets I had before. They sounded great though, maybe they sat on the shelf for too long? Either way, it was not a bad enough experience to keep me from using them again. I highly recommend them.

Thumbs up Can't say enough good things about them

+10

D.R.'s are without a doubt some of the best strings I've played on.

I think your tech may have had some bad JuJu, with his DR experience.

One complaint though, I have not seen any flatwounds yet. I use Thomastik. Otherwise I'm all DR.

I've been using DR strings, Hi-Beams and Sunbeams, for almost ten years and I have never had a bad string. I've probably gone through 60 sets in that period without any problems. Great strings.

I love the sound of my DR's and they have been on the bass for several months now. But my only complaint/disappoinment with them is the difference in string tension from what I normally use. Love the funky sound, but they are a little too loose.

Any thoughts on which ones for a Fender American Deluxe Jazz V (Alder/Maple)? The SS Lo Riders are good, and I have Hi Beams on my 1988 Fender P-Bass (Japan) w/ EMGs and it has given it some good punch. I am curious how the SS Lo Riders compare to the Nickel Lo Riders and Sunbeams...

You haven't seen the new Hi-Beam Flats?

DR finally entered the flatwound arena a few months ago.

Anyhow... my experience with DR has been nothing but perfect. The only other brand with the same level of quality that I've liked just as much is D'Addario.

I haven't had a bad set either.Fatbeams and Low Riders are the best sounding strings I've had.I love Rotosounds too but they haven't been my sound since the 70's.Still a great rock string though.

I've been using DR Sunbeams for some time, and have not had a bad string yet.

I think your tech must be a habitual crack smoker. Ive never had any problems with DR. These are hands down the best strings I have ever used in 25 years or so of playing.

Whenever I'm not playing Sadowsky strings, I'm playing DR strings, and they are as good as it gets.

Some of my favorite strings and I have never encountered a bad one.
