I ordered a 6 string set of DR Red Devil strings. I have never used DR strings before and I was wondering what the characteristics of these strings are like? Are they bright...Are they a high tension or low tension string...Will the coating last for a while? Anyone who is using these or have used them in the past, I would like your input...

| | | I just got a set of them and put 'em on yesterday. I haven't had a chance to really get into playing them yet, but here's a couple of perhaps not altogether encouraging remarks.
First, the D string is like way noticeably darker than the other three. I emailed DR about it, and the prompt reply was "We get that a lot on the red strings. It's our supplier's fault and there's nothing we can do about it."
Second, be careful stringing them through the bridge, as I think I scraped some of the red off one side of the E string.
Bottom line for me: They're probably fine strings, as strings go. As "red" goes, they're a little on the lame side. |

There were alot of different reviews of these strings... some good some bad...I am going to give these strings a very good thumbs up...First off they are bright...not harsh bright, but pleasingly bright. They are a very flexable string because of the round core...which I personally love. The red is also very cool...I think they are more on the maroon side of red. They feel very smooth to me and the medium light guage is very nice. Overall these DR's are a great string. They seem to be alittle more expensive, but if they last and the coating holds up I will probably be a repeat customer.

| | | UPDATE! Big KUDOS to DR Strings. I emailed them about my color problem with the reds, and they sent me not one, but two of the exact right color!
A real stand-up crew there!! |

My playing goes through spurts at times, so it's tough to say how long they "lasted" for me. All I can say is the coating and the brightness wore off faster than I had expected.

They did stay nice and bright for a while, even after my pick scratched off a lot of the color over the pickups. I actually used these until I broke the G string, then took them off for a month or so, and then put them back on again and they still sounded great.
I am a fan of DR strings, because even after they "die" they still sound so nice, and these are no exception IMO |

| | | | I do cable access shows at a music store and had the chance to try these strings. They are actully coated here in CT about 25 miles from where I live, first benefit wow they sure make the guitar look great,If my friend with the pink hofner is reading I can see some of these on that axe,the strings sound about as good as regular strings. They make em for guitar and bass.In time they do get ware spots and I have had a bunch of these strings now,the bass seem to last longer but maybe as mentioned before the pick could be the cause of color flaking but I play bass with fingers and the blue strings held up really good on my bass. The claim is these strings last twice as long, well I am inclined to agree |

| | | | Those guys do indeed rock. It's nice to see that in the world these days.
And by the way, Red Devils touch up nicely with an indelible red Sharpie, at no audible effect. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
