Hey all you good looking bass people...
I have bought some DR Red Devils Extra Life... and these are made for a 40' scale... but the only problem is that my bass is a 1998 Ibanez with 38' scale.... I have been advised by friends to maybe put a Socket (from a wrench) on the bridge... any advice on what to do would be very much appreciated.
With Love,
Cuphandle

Sorry for any confusion

I use DR black beauties on all of my basses.

If it's a BTB the strings should fit fine.
Don't measure the whole bass length! Measure from the bottom of the bridge to the nut.
This will tell you what scale your bass is.

my neck is too short and the actual string gauge instead of the tapered end is going onto my machine head. Which caused my last set to snap... i want to see if there is a way around this. this guitar is second hand so i have no idea. i presume it is factory.

Ok do this, get the biggest fattest string you got, if it is a 4 string that is your E string, if your bass is a 5 string then it is your B string. Set the ball end into the the bridge, then pull the string all the way up to the tuner heads on the head stock. The E string should go past the tuning head by a good couple inches. Grab the string and...screw it let me give you a link I dont wanna write all this. This will tell you what to do step by step bro. http://www.tunemybass.com/bass_string_change/
Behold, the answer to your prayers.

If you are really careful and just tune to pitch it might work, but those strings are kind of expensive to keep snapping them over and over. Maybe try a different kind of string, I know that the coated DR's have that certain sound to them, and I haven't been able to find that sound with any other string, except for the coated elixirs. I don't know what to tell you without actually seeing some pics of your bass and what is happening. -Doug
