DR short scale highbeams?

I just got a set of DR short scale highbeams from juststrings.com and it looks like someone just took a regular set and chopped them off. There is no backing on the string to wind around the post, and they are still way too long. Is this the way they are supposed to be or did someone just try to pull a fast one on me?

If by backing you mean silk, DR's don't have silk.

I just use regular Hi-Beams and make sure to crimp the end before I cut.
