Yea I was puzzled by that at first until I read that it is only necessary to crimp if you are cutting below the anchor, since when you crimp you are creating an anchor, which won't be necessary if the anchor is still in place. My bass is 34" top load, that may be the reason why it's too long, and only on the B string whose tuning post is closer to the fretboard than the rest.
