Hi all,
been thinking about trying the DR coated strings, but was wondering if they will be long enough to go through body on my 35" scale Mill 5? Daddario regular long scale will only work top loaded but but the super long will work through body. Cirrus strings work, Elixirs work, Ernie Ball works, Hartke works but I only get about 1 1/2 wraps around the post on the A string. Headstock is 3 over 2 so the A post is the longest run.
Thanks for the help all, smogg

It's probably just me but everything just feels better when it is strung through body vs top loaded. Not sure how to explain it, just seems like its less spongy and more growly punch. Top loaded just seems too "polite" to me. That is why I chose the millennium 5 over the cirrus 5 to begin with back when i bought it. I realize it is a personal thing but my point is I don't want to drop 40 bucks on a set of strings that don't fit the way i want them to
thanks, smogg

My customer uses DR strings and wanted to keep using these strings. Their reply to me was that all their string sets are made to fit scales up to 37.5".
So yes, it'll definitely go through your body for a 35"scale. |

Another reason DR is great. |

Correction, from ball to tip.

So yes, it'll definitely go through your body for a 35"scale. | I'm not sure this is accurate. I know I had planned on putting some DR extra life strings on my fanned fret, which has a 37" B. I don't think it's long enough. It may just be the hi-beams that are extra long.

I've never seen a string that didn't have a total length plenty long, but you need the wrapped portion of the string to reach from the saddle to the nut. |

| | | | DR Long Necks (not coated, though...). That´s what I put on my 55-02. and I load them thru-body.
BTW, Lakland website says long necks are "out of production". this would imply DR stopped making them (my heart skipped a few beats)... this, however, is NOT the case. I e-mailed DR, and they said Lakland just stopped selling them, they are still available, though... |

Unlike other manufacturers who sell long and extra long sets, DR makes all their strings extra long so you just cut them to length. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
