DR strings on a Warwick - Will they fit?!?!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a long scale (34") Corvette $$. I'm thinking of buying some DR Lo-Riders, or Sunbeams. The problem is, I don't know if they will be long enough for the taper to clear the nut! take a peak at the bridge (in the pic below) on my bass. It's another 1 1/2" to 2" between the ball-end and the saddle. Any WARWICK owners know for certain that DR's will fit?

Yes and no.

I've had DR black beauties (with a taperwound low B) and they fitted. Before that I tried DR Red Devils and they didn't. This is on a 5-string Infinity SN.

Length wasn't a problem on either set of strings, it was that the thickness of the non-taper low B was too much for the tailpiece to accommodate.

DR's have like a 37" winding length so they should fit. Dunlop too

I got Sadowsky Black Labels with tapered B. I also got the XL. Suspect I could've gotten by without the XL's. I too have a Corvette $$. I measured it at 34.5"

I hear ya. My manual says that if the low B is thicker than a .125, get a tapered. I've already picked out some DR Lo-Riders with a .125 low B

if the B string is too thick, you can squeeze it with a pliars - while you can't flatten the B string completely, you can mold it just enough to make it fit. I did that with my thumb a few times.

DR makes 5 string sets with a taper wound B string. I used a High Beam set on my Streamer LX 5-string and everything fits/clears fine. I assume DR would also make a similar set in the Low Rider line.
