Will DR Sunbeams be good strings for slap? i've heard that their tension isn't the 'best' for slap, are there any people on TB that love their Sunbeams for slap?

DR Lowriders in SS may be a better choice for slap as the Sunbeams may be a but too "loose" for slap style. If you must have nickle the Lowriders also come in a nickle wrap as well. Just my opinion based on my experiences YMMV.

I think they are a good slap string as well as traditional playing. Very bright for a nickel string. Not saying nickels aren't generally bright either. There are some good slappers who use them. One of which is Doug Johns. I have a set on now and i like them. I like the low B .

There are a lot of "slappers" who prefer nickel plated steel, simply because they are usually "faster" feeling strings.

The question would be more about the gauge... If you are going to be slapping, I would go with a lighter gauge string personally... 40-100 set, something like that...

I'm only beginning to learn slap so my skill level is pretty low, but I have Sunbeams on my FNA Jazzman and the slap tone is fantastic. I have an easier time slapping some of my other basses but I don't know if that's due to them having wider string spacing that that Warwick, to them having higher tension strings on them (most of my basses Lo Riders on them, my favorite strings), a combination of those factors, or other factors.

But I can tell you it sounds *mighty* good.

No such thing as too loose for slap - my favourite bass for slap has 030-090 Hi-Beams on it, it's only a matter of personal preference and what you are used to.

For the slap tone I prefer, light strings is the only way to go.

Great strings. I don't slap, but they're perfect for fingerstyle funk and funk/blues. Seems like they're just made for Jazz basses.

Which is why I only ever bought one pack.
