DR Sunbeams

Haven't posted anything here on TB in a while, but I read through some of the threads out there on tonal range/ evenness of the sounds produced by strings and it came across that Sunbeams were really solid. I have to say I've never enjoyed playing my bass more with any other string until I slapped some on my J today and actually got to test them with my group today and they all noticed a difference tonally that was really pleasing coming from other nickel-plated strings.

It's safe to say that DR has one more fan of the Sunbeams.

Best regards,

B

I really like Sunbeams. I also dig Lo Riders. If I wasn't infatuated with Chromes right now, I'd be sporting one of those on my main bass.

For my tastes, DR is the best! I've tried various types and always end back up with the Hibeams. But again, DR's cannot be beat, IMO.

Sunbeams and nickle Lo-riders here, depending on the bass.

Sweet, aint they?

Like instant bass tone upgrade.

Like a shiny ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds. :)

Bandwagon for the Sunbeams here. I love them like nothing else I've played. I replaced the Elixirs on my BTB 570 with them and went from wanting to flip it to being in love with it. My band loves the sound too, LG cocked his head at my bass during the first practice with them and said "DAMN that bass sounds good!" I"ve tied all the cheaper strings, Dunlop, EB, D"addario. Tried Elixirs, DM NPS roundcore, DR Black Beauties. I have a set of TI Superalloys waiting for when these wear out. If they don't grab me I'll stick with Sunbeams from here out.

I too am amazed by the Sunbeams, my favorite round! I've got two brother Ps a few serials from each other. One equipped with TI flats and other with Sunbeams. I prefer Sunbeams over TI rounds.

I have Sunbeams on my Will Lee right now and they're really nice. I usually use Hi Beams but wanted to tone the brightness down a bit. They're great.

I spent 30 years trying to find my string.

You guessed it - Sunbeams.

Fab on fretted and fretless!

When I first put Sunbeams on one of my basses, I found them a little rough when doing a lot of slides. Now that they're broken in, they feel and sound great! I think I might like my Pressurewounds more, but DR strings are ****ing great.

+1, That is exactly how I felt the first time I tried them.

I found sunbeams to mellow sounding, to lacking in top end. The neons did much better for me tone wise when I was using them.

dbd1963 01-11-2013 08:41 PM

For me Lo Riders are tops in round wounds. I can dig the nickel or the stainless. Hi Beams and Sunbeams are not far behind.

I've tried many a string and found DR to be about the best there is for my tonal desires.

The only thing I've never tried is DR flats. Anyone have any opinion on those?

Sunbeams are my favorite round wound as well.
I think the natural sound of the bass comes out more acutely and that these strings allow for more EQ without some of the clankiness or mud that occur with lessor strings.

Tried Sunbeams, Fodera's nickel plated round core string sounds much better, imo and is available with a tapered B. And costs less.

Love DR strings, Lo Riders, Hi Beams, Sunbeams....all good!

Ended up with Fat Beams on my Sadowsky MV4 and Sunbeams on the fretless Jazz.

Sounds great and feels even better.

dDaddybass 01-12-2013 09:17 AM

I love sunbeams. How do the lo riders compare feel and tone wise?

4-string 01-12-2013 12:28 PM

Stiffer and a bit rougher than Sunbeams IMO. I used Lo Riders (both nickel and ss) on my Sadowsky, so far Sunbeams only on the fretless J so I can't really say re tone.

Both sound good though. :)
