DR Sunbeams HIGH C buzz

Sign in to disble this ad
Should have started this as a new thread instead of putting it in my other tread on HI Beams...sorry.
I got a set of SUNBEAMS for my 6 string fretless.
The 6 string SUNBEAM set has a 125 low B and seems a bit lower in output than the E string. I also have a very buzzy zinging overtone on the top open C, it almost swells the note. Could this be a faulty string? Has anybody else had this?
Thanks

Iain H

Check the nut slot. Its either to deep or to wide for the string, causing the overtone/buzz.

These might be some silly questions, but...

B-string output: have you tried slightly raising the pickups on the B-string side? Depending on what strings you were previously using on that bass (ex: taperwound B), the pickup might be currently set a little too low.

G-string 'buzz/zing': Sounds like you might have to tweak your trussrod and/or action at the bridge saddle. Once again, depending on the gauges of your prior string set, some minor adjustments might have to be done.

If you have questions regarding setups, there are some good 'sticky' threads in the "setup & repair" forum.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I always have problems with DR strings in general. I always find them to be inconsistent. I had a customer come in with a bass and was complaining of buzzing along the whole neck. I plucked the strings and immediately asked if he had DR's on the bass. He said yes and we put a set of D'addario's on the bass and the buzzing was gone. I have had this situation occur quite a few times and I stopped recommending DR's to my customers. The round core strings are the worst for this.

I've fixed any buzz on my DRs by making sure the strings are seated properly in the nut. I just applied a little pressure actually and they don't buzz anymore.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your replies! I've spoken to DR and they have kindly offered to send me a replacement. Excellent after sales from DR team.
