DR Sunbeams vs TI Jazz rounds

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll picking up a new 5 string J type before Christmas and I want to pick some new strings for it. I'm currently on D'Addario nickles but want something a little easier on the hands.

I've narrowed things down to Sunbeams and TI Jazz rounds. I've got a 4 string set of each on different basses at the minute to try them out.

Anyone out there got any thoughts on either or both? I don't want to bias any advice coming in.

The bass these will ultimately go on has a rosewood board, Nordstrand SV pickups and 3 band circuit. I'm not looking for super twinkly top end.

Cheers

I like both strings but the Jazz Rounds are my favorite rounds of all time. Very smooth to the touch with very prominent mids. Sunbeams are a touch higher in tension but not much and I think that will also be affected by what gauge you get. They sound just a touch more like traditional rounds but I would not call them twinkly at all. I am anxious to hear what you decide.

Have you tried a TI Jazz 5 string set?

I don't really play 5 string basses at all. I have a hard enough time with 4 strings.
