Drop-C# set for a JB?

Sign in to disble this ad
Tuning a half step down, low string another whole step. Fender JB, four-string. Medium gauge - on guitar I use 11-54 for this tuning, would like something corresponding in the bass world (as you can tell, I'm brand new to bass!). Which brand has something like this?

get 50s or 55s ernie ball sells a pair of both of those or you could just get a 5 string set and put the low b on the e that woud work too.

Thanks for your input! I thought about that, but have two issues:

1) I'd let a string go to waste. Call it OCD or whatever, but I hate that.

2) The .130 string from such a set might be overkill in terms of tension, being meant for a low B. Plus I might have to file the nut, and I'd rather avoid that as I'm not sure I'll keep this bass.

I have my finger on the trigger for a set of Roto 66, Billy Sheehan. They're .043-0.110. As I'm a guitarist, I'd like strings not to stiff for me flimsy old fingers. Can a 0.110 suffice for a C#, Fender scale, without going too slack?

yes, the .110 will work fantastically. i've used that gauge for that tuning before and like the results.

I too use .110's and they work great. Ernie Ball has that gauge (Power Slinky's) with a beefy A string. Compliments the top string marvelously.

I use Rotosound 50-110s at Drop C, so you should be fine.
