Drop D tone

i was messing around one day with drop D and loved the tone i was getting
would it be possible to think it would be possible to get a similar if not identical sound from light gauge

a recommendations for a decent set?

There's a "rubbery-ness" to lower tension strings, for sure. Is that what you're hearing?
