dumbo looking for metal bass strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I've been playing bass for a little over two years now and i currently own an Ibanez SR305.
I just broke another string on it and had to replace with an older one, but I noticed that it sound way better than the other more expensive strings on my bass :[ egh strings are confusing to me.
I've played D'addario super brights i think (or just basically their brightest) and the last strings that I bought were DR's.
So i know now what i basically don't want in bass strings but before I go through that I want to say that I'm looking for a good straight metal tone, bright, crunchy and heavy with plenty of room for that low-end. Basically your average Ibanez tone great highs and high mids with insane low-end.

1. The whole thing about losing my tone within like a month is seriously ticking me off.
2. I HATE the slapping against the bridge that my basses strings make because with my bass the slapping is extremely loud and is all watered down (BLEH, annoying!)
3. Though about trying an ATK bass itself because I think that a "fatter" tone might be interesting (yes this is still about strings)
4. I want to do tapping on my bass and I know now that I need to lower my bridge (I'm working on that) But I really don't thing that my stiff DR's are helping things.

I want resonance, like really good resonance because i hate that floppy cheap poopy sound of old strings .

But anyways, I need help because I'm hitting dead-ends left and right .

Maybe stainless steel rotosounds.

Yep, old strings sound old. You've just got to change them or get to like deader strings.

Are you talking about the strings slapping against the frets when you play regularly?

For hard rock/metal I always liked Dean Markley...either SR 2000's or Blue Steel..and they last quite a while... but if you want great strings at a cheap price....Hartke Nickel strings are great. I can't endure dead strings either, Buddy

Most strings are metal aren't they?

Now that lame jokes out the way, got a pretty heavy sound out of Dunlop strings, the Nickles were real aggressive but a bit too bright for my liking (I like rounds but I don't like that much brightness either). If I was in a metal band where I needed a really REALLY rough tone I'd probably use em, best majorly aggressive sounding strings I've used, god knows what the Stainless are like...

Alot of the stuff you mentioned with too many noises and your tone getting choked sounds like an action issue, could be a bit too low for an aggressive style which will make all sorts of clicking and rattling sounds and destroy your sustain causing your bass to sound much less bassy.
