Dunlop Nickel Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so i broke in a light gauge set of DR's on my certainbass 5 string and they werent working out with the current setup. I wanted a set of medium gauge with a light B and the only set at GC that fit the bill were Dunlop .45 .65 .85 .105 .125.
They are nickel plated.
My guess was right regarding gauge- this seems to be the gauge the nut is cut for- the fretbuzz went away and right away i like my bass again!
After about an hour playing time i think these strings are decent- i would gig with them in a pinch, and at $24.00 might get a few sets as backup- plus they have that nickel plated goodness as well.

I just bought 2 sets for my Pbasses.
I've been hearin some good things (on TB) bout them, and I walked in to GC to see what they had for strings..the dude starts talkin away...Told em I was lookin for a new string to try out,(Usually use DRs..& still do on my 5er) and he suggested the Dunlop Nickels.(45-105).

I'll throw em on tonite..hope theyre good.

You needed to loosen your truss rod for the lighter set. The neck became back bowed, and you got fret buzzing. The heavier set pulled the neck back up again.

When you change string gages, you have to adjust your neck, because of the difference in tension.

Wow!
That is fantastic information and i sincerely thank you. I am hell on tech-ing my own basses so its best if I stick with one gauge for now or if i get the urge to change gauges next time, ill do it while hiring one of you guys for a pro setup.
You are absolutely right tho- the first set of replacement strings even banged the intonation out!
Remember- I had no idea what the original gauge of the strings was, the builder never told me- I simply (and luckily) guessed right on the second set of replacement strings.

I love the Dunlop Nickels. I've noticed they don't seem to last as long as they once did. I got about 6 months out of my last set with about 6-7 hours a week playing on them.
