Dunlop Nickels what are your thoughts?

Tried a set of Dunlop Nickels 45-100 on my Squier VM precision . I can say that I really Llike these strings. Very pronounced midrange. Smooth feel. Lower tension. I have used Sunbeams before and these are very similar. The Sunbeams are great strings but for the price of the Dunlops I will probably use these on that bass for good. Sound great in a live setting as well. For me and my rig Carvin BX500 with predom. clean setting. I was using SIT Power Wounds Nickel and Rock brights Nickels.these in my opinion are much better sounding to me and what I play thru. Very full sounding and not hollow. My favorite thing about these Dunlops is how great they sound fingerstyle!! These are my choice in Nickel Strings. For flats I use D'Darrio(sic) chromes and for steel I use DR-Lo-Riders steel on my Lakland.

i agree with your entire post per Dunlops, bohemond!

I ordered several sets when JustStrings had Dunlops BYGOF a while back. I was using DR low rider nickels until I decided to stop spending $25-30 for new strings. They work fine and last a good while. I'm also using some Daddario nickels from the classifieds and they're fine, too.

I've discovered the amount of time I practice is inversely proportional to my frustration with strings.

PM Señor SLaPiNFuNK and find out. He seems eager to please.

Edit: But the JustStrings folks are nice also. I like the way she writes a little note on the packing list.

+1 to everything. I'm not horribly picky about strings, but there is nothing unusually nasty about these as compared to other brands at this price point.

If they ever run another special on these, I'll pick up a few more sets. I like the five string sets too.

They're a step up from Ernie balls, but they're no DR. I like them a lot, but I can't stand a string that's completely dead after one rehearsal or gig. I don't like the tone of DRs as much, but a set of theirs will last me at least a month and a half before going dead.

I'm mostly a DR Sunbeam guy. Tried the Dunlop nickels for awhile. Probably a good option if you change strings a lot cause they can be found cheaply but I went back to the DRs.

Much as I'm a DR Sunbeam fan, oddly enough I've now got several different strings on different basses and find I like them all. Have older (silver thread) set of Fender strings on my PBass that I've really grown to like. My Lakland 55-01 came with Dadarrios which I typically don't like but there's OK. Guess if they're decent nickel roundwounds I'm OK

Nothing wrong with Sunbeams IMO . I just think these are just as good, maybe Sunbeams sound a tad better in the lows. But these feel better to me and for a few bucks less I think they are worth it.

Dunlops are awesome! I'm gonna buy the Lemmy strings they just came out with since they actually look pretty awesome. Heavy D+G, regular E+A. They are steels too. I can't justify spending 40 bucks on strings. 15-20 is more me

I gotta check out those Lemmy strings too. Curious how they play and sound. Mayber when my Jazz needs a new set. But yeah I will never pay 40 for a set of strings > never over 26 or 27 for that matter unless prices jump incredibly

I like steels when I've tried them and Lemmy rules! Plus I always switch from 45-105 back and forth with 50-110. I like heavy bottom strings. It's like the planets aligned and made a string set for me

$3 or so for single set, so you're looking at around $18 total. Jason kills Juststrings in every way possible.

Love these strings, have one pbass with Sunbeams and one with Dunlop Nickels. I love the feel, tension and mid-range authority of the dunlops
