Dunlop Rob Trujillo 5er Set.

Just got them, have to say, their the oddest set of strings I've ever tried.

Steel EADG, with tapers on the EAD, and a Non Taperd Nickle Plated Steel B.

Suprisingly, the nickle B matches well with the steels.

Bright highs, snarly, growly lows, yet even throughout the range, feel nicer than most steels. Great tension, even from the odd guages, 45, 63, 80, 100, 130.

The tapered E and A have given me trouble already, if I play above the 12th on the E, I get a terrible warbley tone, and about the 16-18th area on the A, kinda sucks. Wolf tones, I think...

Anyway, there's my early impressions, FWIW.

Fantastic tone though, only for the E and A trouble, I'd be buying a few more sets.

I tried the four string set once before, when they first came out, I was given a set free, as a trial run, and got the same problems, but they were the only strings in stock.

That is very unorthodox; tapered E through D, but the B is not.

I like the .102 E string--on 45-130 sets, I often think the .100 E is a little light. Trujillo and I must think alike.

A tapered D? I have never seen one.

I really like the 40-100 Dunlop nickels I have on my '51 Precision Reissue. Bright and full of harmonics like steel strings, but not too "attacky". And the price on these is right.

I had these strings too, they were perfect except for the wolf tones I got beyond the 12 fret.

If it wasn't for that, I'd kep these strings.

Yup, odd, and the B is nickle, the rest steel.

The Dunlop nickle plated's are some of my very fave strings, regardless of price, them and Optimas, or DR's.

Exactly my sentiments, only for that, they are incredible.

I'm leaving them on for now, and bringing them into the shop in a day or two, so they can see for themselves, as they gave them to me n/c until I checked if they'd work for me, as they weren't what I asked for.

So the B string is really nickel? This is really kind of surprising given the amount of people who complain that their B string sounds different from the other strings, looks like Mr. Trujillo likes to accentuate the said "difference".

Suprisingly, it actually cancels the difference, they matched up beautifully, but the steel strings die faster, so you got four dead steels, and one still good nickle.

as for the wavery tone further up the neck, perhaps trujillo doesnt travel there that much in his playing?
what is the G like? i did'nt see any mention of it in your post.

Ah, sorry 'bout that, the G is absaloutly great, fine bright, yet full tone, no wavering too, as its not tapered.

I use these strings and I have to agree with all of the above. These strings are fantastic, I love the low-B, and I don't have too much of a problem with the wavering tone because I'm very rarely that far down the neck. Maybe for the odd bass solo, but when needing stuff that high I usually just put on my Whammy and play with the extra octave on that.
