I just picked up a set of the Nickel Plated 4 string set (Light gauge) and i had to share haha.
I've been playin a Spector for a year now, but i slapped the Dunlops on my old Squier and WOW! I had heard decent things about them before, but they are much better than i expected!
Has anyone else tried these? |

The strings that came on it were Mike Lull strings and he loved the sound & feel so he called the shop. They told him they were Dunlop strings.
Anyway .... he had been a diehard DR HighBeam user for about 10 years but just told me he's going to call Mike Lull and order several more sets and he's leaving the DR's behind. He said the price was reasonable too.
Well .... I still haven't tried them and am using DR Sunbeams but who knows ... |

If YOU like them and they give you the sound you want- that's all that matters. |

Lot's of clarity, growl and definition. |

I got 3 packs of the Nickles... Nickle hugh? I've played alot of nickles in my time & just never liked em. They we're free so I might as well use em. Dang! I couldnt believe how amazing they we're & they last a long time too. Believe it or not they sound alot like the DR low riders without the harsh feel & clickity clack of steel. You cut through the mix & the mids are full & smooth, the lows are full & blooming & the highs sound full without being harsh. I havent touched DR's in 6 months & the Dunlops are half the price which blew my mind. One thing I have noticed is that with the DR's, Droping my E string to D & intonating, it was rough bringing the E bridge saddle all the way back over the end wrap. The Dunlops don't have this problem. When I detune & intonate with them the saddles barely have to be moved that much. I don't know why this is but I'm loving it.

Might have to do that bridge mod |

I've tried many different (quality) strings, and I like something about most of them. The Dunlops stand above most, especially for the price. They sound absolutely wonderful on my Jazz Bass. I've only used the medium gauge (45-105).
Only one issue: My local GCs don't stock Dunlop five string sets. |

That sucks about the G&L's, seems to be a dangerous downside, to such lovely instruments.

Dunlop strings suck! |

I'm using a set of 45-105 Dunlop nickels on a Lakland 44-01, through body, for about a month now. Thumbs up, they kept their tone pretty good and don't seem to put a lot of tension.
(ahem, ahem, they suck, indeed, and rust quickly )
Regards,
Adrian

The way things are going, if peoples reaction to them keeps on the up & up i don't know what i'll do if they raise the price. I might have to stock pile as we speak. Juststrings.com has all the Dunlop steels & nickles in various gauges for great prices. Dunlops are the only strings IMO that can battle DR's. I just don't know if I can go back to DR's. I'm freaking out!

I've used D'Addario for years and have always been happy with them. D'Addario does the two set box thing, too. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
