Dunlop Strings

I just put Dunlop Strings on my Roscoe LG3006 and LOVE THEM! I have a gig tomorrow and a studio date as well. They hold their tune and feel great. I've used Dadaddario for years.
I will let you know how they work out. I also plan on a demo with them for my bass club meeting July 25, at Alpha Music.

Okay, so it has been a month or so. How do you guys like the Dunlops, now? I'm still digging them! I think they have a vintage(?) kind of vibe that is really cool. They're lasting fairly well, also.

I'll buy more, for sure.

If they have a vintage vibe and are nickels, I'm certainly interested!

Yes, I'm speaking of the nickel strings. I should have said that.

great strings. i put a slightly broken in set on my lakland hollowbody. huge bottom, detailed musical mids, and definition but no glass on top. the notes from E to A on the E string are nice and defined. no mud.

Does anybody notice and less sustain in Dunlops versus higher tension D'addario's, etc.? Higher tension = more potential energy in the string = longer sustain, right? Or am I overthinking this?!?

No sustain loss here.

So i tried a set of Dunlop nickel 45-65-85-105 today. I'm not really a big fan. I usually use D'addario XL's in the same gauge. What I found was the Dunlops have less tension and are a little dead on the top end. I like the zing that the D'addario strings have. I will say this dunlops are long enough for 36" scale basses.Ii wish the D'addario's were. I have to get super long for my 5 string 35" scale bass. The super long are hard to find some times. All in all Dunlops are not bad for the price thats for sure. Worth a try if you like a softer feel.

The Dunlops aren't as bright on the top end. I like them for a more vintage sort of sound. They're very nice, very musical strings, with an open, almost airy midrange (D'Addario doesn't have) that brings out a woody, natural tone. I dig 'em.

If you want top end zing, D'Addario is definitely great for that.

i will take a set of dunlop's over d'addarios any day!

d'addarios are very clanky to me. i much prefer dunlop!

the dunlop's aren't "low tension" to me either.

I'm very interested in the Dunlop strings if they fit 35" scale basses. How's the low B?

I've never tried them on my fiver, but I did emailed Dunlop about 35" scale in regards to a Lakland 55-02. The tech guy responded and said he uses them on a 55-94, but had to string through the bridge instead of the body.

So the short answer is yes.

Dunlop strings are plenty long enough for a 35" scale bass. I know I have on. I gave my review of the nickel Dunlop's but have not yet tried them on my 5 string.
