Cool E string on Gibson Bass problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I have a 73' Gibson EB1 and sometimes when I'm playing, I can push the E string off the fretboard. Also, the volume of this string is lower than the other 3 strings. Please let me know if there is a remedy t make the E string louder?. Thanks. Also, should I file the nut

Have you tried adjusting the PUP height?

I wouldn't be to quick to shave your nut. I hear it itches like crazy when it grows back.
