I'm trying a set of DR Rare Acoustic Bass strings and so far they seem quite tense. Very odd for a DR round core.

Anyway I thought a lighter 40 - 100 gauge might be better however only Rotosound and Adamas have gauges like that.

There are several makers that have gauges close to that like Fender, LaBella, etc., but this is my first attempt at finding strings that sound good (and feel good) on an EAB.

Anyone try the Rotos or Adamas?

Anyone use one of the other brands that are close to the 40 - 100?

Oh the bass is a Tacoma Thunderchief like many here have.

Looking for any and all advice or help you can give to save myself a ton of time in the hunt. I'm sure there must be a great wealth of experience here with this dilemia.

Thanks guys.

Have you checked out the TI Acousticore strings? They have a nylon core, so they'll only work with piezo pickups (acoustic basses), but they have a much deeper, bassy kind of sound compared to the usual zingy bronze strings. They have a much lighter gauge and lower tension too. Some people love 'em, some don't. I personally wouldn't think of using anything else on an acoustic bass

I have thought about using the TI's but you're right that they are a love/hate thing.

I am concerned about the way the strings "roll" under the fingers as I have heard on TB.

There are others that make a nylon core string but I'm not sure about nylon cores.
