I was just wondering how many on here use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky(2833) strings. Custom gauge 45, 65, 85, 105, nickel wound I think. I just put some on my Geddy 2 days ago and I like the sound and feel. I'm use to flats because of less finger noise but these Hybrids seem to work for me. I don't know how long they last but I like them.

It seems to me that after 6 months they seem to go dead and when they do they get replaced. I just got something new to try because They sounded like a cool idea. Dean markley blue steels. They have that growl and punch that ernie balls do when they are new and it lasts longer. They have been on my bass for 2 months now and sound like new. Only downside is that stainless steel strings chew up your fingers even if you have calluses already built up. |

I actually like my strings when they've dulled down a little. Active basses are so zingy that a slightly worn set of strings can really warm them up IMO. I play like crazy on a new set of strings to get them dulled down slightly so that they are no quite as zingy and clanky. |

Now I have a Precision with flats so I'm going to try the Hybrids on the Geddy. Hopefully I'll get at least a month from them. The flats do last a long time though but they don't seem to sound very good on the Geddy once they start dying.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: NW Florida | | | I've been using the Hybrid Slinkys on my active Carvin, and my Geddy Lee. They sound and feel GREAT on both!!
Contrary to what I've been reading here, they don't sound very zingy or too bright; they last about 6 months (I've been playing gigs once or twice a week), and they feel very smooth on the fingers. I think they sound warm and deep, and make my Geddy AND EVEN the Carvin sound more like a Precision! I love the smooth feel, and the last time I changed a set from my Carvin after about 8 months, the new set sounded the same! I tend to like a warm, fat sound---don't like bright, zingy, trebly---I don't even get that on the high G string with the Hybrids.
I am going to get an American Standard Precision, right now, I'm thinking these strings are the perfect sound for the P bass. I'd like to hear contrary opinions, like, 'what is the perfect P bass string for the P bass sound?
What is the difference between Hybrids and the other slinkys?
I've been playing through an Ampeg SVT HLF 410, and a Hartke with 2 15s. I know these cabs must add to the warmth. But I notice a big difference from Rotosound swingbass. Also, I use 45-105 guage. |

Holy crap I liked the tone. I'll try to get a clip up here ASAP so you can hear what i'm talking about. |
