EBS Northern lights - nickel vs. steel

Sign in to disble this ad
During yesterday's attempt at slap-popping (something I rarely if ever do), the G-string came undone.

... pun hell.

Anyhow, the core string snapped, the wounding literally uncoiled itself and the G is no more. I'm going for a replacement set for my fiver, but my options are limited - on one hand, there's DR, but the prices here are staggering. On the other hand, one of the local shops sells EBS Northern lights at what looks like a decent price.

Have you used EBS NLs, what're your opinions and which ones to pick between nickel and steel? I have no preferences regarding metal (or, rather, no allergies to nickel). Since I generally play in a wide variety of genres, I'm interested in how they work for you - I'm biased towards a darker, metal sound, but I need something overall decent.
