electric bass nylon strings question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all

Recently I bought Thomastik Infeld Phosphorbronze Round Wound on Nyloncore ( .035, .041, .056, .068, .086) for my ABG and I am in love with these strings. I am playing more than I ever have and it is primarily cos of the strings. So soft, so easy to play on and such low tension, such great sound.

Dumb question here - What strings could I use in the electric fretted bass world to get the same FEEL and sound (it is a very mellow sound - not too bright at all)? I would like to string my 6 string E-A-D-G-B-E. Where could I get these strings? Are these the nylon tapewounds that you guys are talking about? I do see that the guages are MUCH higher.

Thanks for any help guys

I'm the same way. HUGE fan of the nylon-core TIs. The all around closest strings that I've found for electric bass are the TI Jazz Rounds. They're a much lighter gauge/tension than most or any other electric bass strings, and they have a much softer feel and tone as well. Still having great clarity and definition though.

They're the only string that I'm using for Electric basses now. You could do the E-B fine, by tuning the high C a half-step down to B, but I don't know what you would do for a high E string to match. If you could find a nickel high F string, or maybe even a used steel F, that would probably be the best option.

Here's some audio of the Jazz Rounds at about 6-months old:

Hope that helps

http://www.juststrings.com/toi-jr344.html is the one right?

Thanks so much! It helps a lot (btw, nice playing.. i had already subscribed cos of the kinal compact.. i wish i had that kind of money hehe) . I came up with the same results from the TI site. The F string is bugging me.. maybe conklin.. would be wonderful if I could play some classical music on my 6 string.. hmm.. or maybe just give up customizing and pick up a classical guitar.. why deal with a huge bass with huge strings and all that..

Thanks again man.. greatly appreciate it.
