Electric Bass - String Brand Identification Database

Many of us have bass strings we can't identify for certain. Either we forgot what we put on the bass, the bass came to us with strings we don't recognize, or we buy used strings of unknown brand. It would be nice to know exactly what we have, so we can avoid them if we don't like them, or pick up some more of them if we like them.

I'm hoping to create, here on TB, a database for identifying bass strings based upon gauge, design, but primarily silk color. (I have looked all over the net, and haven't been able to find one, except for Double Bass strings.) There have been numerous threads designed to identify particular sets of strings, but no comprehensive guide.

This project will require assistance from many TBers. When concluded, it will serve (hopefully) into an easy-to-use guide to identify the strings you have, by brand and model, and perhaps gauge.

I'm asking for your help through submitting information and pictures of strings you have, but there are certain conditions:

1. You must be certain of the brand of string. I've see too many "what string is this?" threads where people throw in suggestions without knowing for sure what string it is.

2. You must send me (or post) pictures of the strings.

3. The pictures must show both ends of the strings, and the silk wrappings, if any. Information as to gauge, if you're sure, would be very helpful.

I will keep up with everything and compile all the information received (hopefully) into a useful and informative database.

Please share what you know. I think the end result will be very beneficial for many of us. If it turns out well, perhaps the mods will allow it to become a sticky.
