Elixer rounds or EB flats paradox.

I recently bought an Ibanez SR500 and like the growl to some degree from the stock elixers; however, I bought some Ernie Ball flat wounds and like the mellower tone in general of flats.

I am actually enjoying the elixers for their brightness but they are noisy and definitely require paying a lot of attention to my playing to avoid noisiness.

I know it's a personal thing, but do you think it is a good idea to take off the stock strings and put on the preferred flats? I'm afraid I'll miss that growl that the elixers have, but the elixers don't have the smooth tone of the flats. So it's a paradox of sorts.

I guess I can carefully remove the elixers. I might be able to put them back on without twisting them if I decide to put them back on again, or I can just buy a new set.

I'm anxious to try the flats on this awesome bass.

I would like to find some good nickel plated flats or pure nickel flats if anyone knows of any.

I used to only use Elixirs but I have now switched to D'addorio Half Rounds, ENR72's

They are half way between rounds and flats in their sound. Still have plenty of growl but they loose the string noise at the cost of a little brightness.
