Elixer string blues

I have to vent a little because I have just had a bad two weeks with my bass…

I play an Ibanez BTB that that I bought a few months back, it came stock with Elixers on it and I have had no problems with it until these past two weeks…I had two shows I broke a string for each one…The first one was my G string and thankfully it happen about an hour before the show, but last night on stage during the last song my B string broke…how the hell does the B string break…I was slapping a bit but no more than I do everyday on all my basses and I have never broken a B string on any of them….or even seen one snap for that matter.

As I looked at it after I got off stage I noticed that I broke at the bridge and that the string are tapered and get thinner at the end…WTF is that. At the end where it makes contact with the saddle it was no thicker than my A string.

Oh well…I guess I should have put DR’s on when I bought it. I am thinking Black Beauties because I have never used them but have heard many good things.

I just needed to vent my disappointment.

If it broke at the bridge, it could very well be that there's a burr on your saddle or something similar. It's when it breaks in the middle of the string that it's almost definitely the string's fault. I'd check your saddles for any rough edges or anything that could break the string.

Tapered strings are actually quite common.

I used to to run ElixIrs for well over a year on my basses, never broke one.
