Elixer Strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I've recently bought a set of Elixer Nanowebbs for my Traben Sun 5 string, and on all of the strings, The coating has started to come off! The strings feel kind of "luby" and nasty to play on. Has this happened to any of y'all, or did I just get another batch of bad strings?

Maybe it's a factor of how often you play? The last elixers I had did the same thing as well, but it took several months (playing 3 x week).

Do you use a pick? That will scrape the coating off much faster.

I had Elixers that came stock on a new bass and I hated them. They had no tone and that slippery feel shat me to tears. I got rid of them pretty quickly and the coating didn't have a chance to come off.

I recently tried a set of Elixirs in some test they did, and I liked the sound, but I could see where the coating was getting dented when I used a pick. It never peeled but it got dented. My brother in law once gave me a set to try out on acoustic guitar, and they peeled. So yeah, it's pretty common if you use a pick.

I also tried elixers in the recent test they did. They werent bad but for me they didnt have that broken in roundwound string sound that I like. They pealed after 2 weeks and sounded very zingy till the 2 months was up and I sent them back.

Nope, I don't think I used a pick with them on, I do do a lot of slap/pop with them though. That might be one of the reasons too, But the coating is mostly coming off where the string wouldn't make contact with anything. (other then my fingers)

And Jimmy, Elixers are my choice for my acoustics, and I use a pick around 50% of the time. I've never had a problem with the acoustic strings peeling, and I've been through around 13 sets of those now. How old were they?
