| | | | Depends on your definition of better, I don't know about the tone but the feel is pretty slick because of the coating, but not as smooth as flats. What bass do you want to try them on?

As far as the tone goes, you will have form your own opinion. I'm just saying they work for me. I find they are well balanced from string to string have a normal tension feel and are easy on the fingers.

At first, I did not like the way the Elixirs sounded. I noticed I had lost a lot of bass from my tone. BUT, after a week or two of playing them, the strings seemed to "settle in" and had a much better tone and response than when I first put them on. They still sound great (I played them tonight) and they have been on my bass since probably December or so. Great sounding strings now for sure!!! |

The only reason you may not like them is if you are really into the brand spanking new fresh out of the box and onto your bass zing then these may not be for you, the overall tone when you first put them on seems equivalent to just broken in strings to me. Though the more you play them they will get slightly brighter and more clear in sound.
I have also had the pleasure of trying out the Stainless Steel strings coming soon from Elixir. When first putting them on your bass, you will notice hardly any if no sound difference at all from their usual Nickels. I haven't played it a whole lot, but the little bit I have played, I have noticed as they are on their way to breaking in I am starting to slightly hear the traditional steel sound coming on, although it is only slightly for now. We will see what happens when they further break in. |

Get two sets of those for the price of one set of Elixirs, and see if you like them. The feel is way more closer to uncoated strings. And I've played Elixirs for a good couple of years, but in the end any set is dead after a couple of months of touring anyway so I figured why waste the extra money on a coating that disolves before that time? And I've found that the quality differs from set to set - with the nickels that is... There are better string makers out there than Gore. |

Their coating will shed long before you go through 2 sets of HiBeams. |

| | | | I think elixers mess up the midrange and have awful sounding overtones. Not a fan of strings that go fuzzy over time from wear either. Only coated strings Ive tried and liked are DR neons.
