Anyone know a few answers to these questions about the new Exlixir SS?:

How to clean, and or can I use Fast Fret?

I plan on swapping between these and a set of Fat Beams to compare maybe over a 2 week period. Does it make sense to do this given that the Elixir coating will most likely wear on the bottom side of the string where they hit the frets, or should I just compare a longer period? I noticed this kind of wear on a set of Neon's...

Anyway... Of to string up the Elixir's....

Thanks!

The coating on the Elixir's IME doesn't come off on the bottom of the strings... you'll most likely notice it where you pluck with your right hand (over the pickups) but it'll take longer then two weeks to notice...

Thanks for the guidance . I'll leave them on for a while then.

I'll try to post a quick impression this weekend.

Cheers!

New SS First impressions = Awesome!

- While putting them on I noticed the tension seeming to be high compared to the Fat Beams that were on there.....
(I believe they're hex core)

- Started to play un-plugged and I thought "these feel like Nickels" - really diggin' that slick feel!
-- Maybe I don't need to use fast fret anymore: Q: can I for cleaning?

- Played a bit more to get them to settle (doing a few bridge pushes on both sides to get a good footing)

- Plugged into an AG 500 + GS 112 , and the really sound nice!

Overall a very versatile sounding string for my wide tastes of playing (funk, rock, jazz - pluck to slapping)

Also, these are Very impressive in terms of flexibility/stiffness. I feel they're as flexible as fat or high beams, which is ideal for me.

Great set!!!!!!

Triplelutz, (the master D), thanks for giving your reviews. I truly lucked out by winning this set.... And now I may be a new customer

Happy Thanks Giving!!

I've been using the nickel elixirs for a while, I'd like to give the SS a try, however I use a .135 B string. I'll be interested if and when they roll out one of those in SS.

I would be interested in the 40-100.
I am leaning to lighter gauge now. I am still loving this 5 string SS set I have them on. Pondering to start to get other sets for my 4 string basses.

I must say that the smooth feel of this new coating is awesome!
