Are Elixir stings with it or not.

Sign in to disble this ad
Just bought a new Ibanez Sr705 and it came with elixir strings on it. I already bought some D'addario strings to replace them but I looked on Guitar centers site and these strings are $55. They don't sound bad. I'll mostly be playing jazz and gospel music. What do y'all think?

I think you should put the D'Addario's on and let your ears be your own judge as to what you think sounds best.

Worst case scenario is, you have to take them off, and put them in their package for use when the Elixers need to be changed.

You answered the question yourself. "They dont sound bad". Had you said "they sound great", theyd be wortth keeping on for awhile to see if you continue to like them and to experience the fuzzy string thing with them. I'm not a daddario fan myself. But I diff did not like elixers sound, wasnt keen or their feel either. But sound was first thing that got me to remove them from the Ibanez I had pretty quick. Id say take the elixers off carefully so they could be reused if you find you like the sound of the daddarios less.

Of the Coated Strings I feel DR has the Edge on Elixer. And I use to only play Elixer. Honestly it's all prefrance.

+1. I think DR just cornered the market. Elixer should be out of business within a year.

True Tone strings are way better that the thick coated Elixer strings. The True Tone has a super thin coating that you don't notice, which gives it a more open tone.I believe that the Elixer coating takes away from the responce and openness I like in a string.
That being said, Im still out on the whole coated string thing.I think regluar strings sound better and cost less. The coating thing is a fad.Wash your hands befor you play problem solved.

If you like a nice bright tone, coated strings definitely work and are worth the extra money. I prefer the Ernie Ball coated to the Elixers, but I haven't dried the DRs. In the end, it really is all about what sounds and feels good to you.

I'm a big fan of the Elixir strings. I used the 45-130 "5-string" set, and personally haven't found another brand of coated strings that hold a candle to Elixir, from a tone or feel perspective...but it's all personal preference, and they are just what I like...

I'm with the Ernie Ball coated entourage. They may not be as absolutely bright zingy as brand new out of the envelope strings, but they stay the same sounding for a loooooong time.

I have 3 Ibanez's that came with Elixers... I like the sound and the feel of them, but yeah play them for 10 minutes with a pick and see what happens.

I like Elixirs but I haven't tried other coated strings other than some EXPs on my ABG. I like the feel of the Elixirs and the tone was very good for my ATK.

I think Elixir's sound great, but feel weird. They last amazingly long, but the fuzz thing that happens when the coating starts to wear bothers some people; me included.

All the answers have given me a lot to consider on strings. Bass players rock. Thanks for all the feed back. Keep sending them. I will still be checking back for replies.

I had a stock set of Elixirs on my Ibby SRT805. Hated them, however I have a set on a Pbass frankenbass and I honestly love the way these sound. I am more partial to DR strings and I am going to try a set of their coated strings next.

Out of curiosity, do you notice it on the nanowebs or just the polywebs? I had some nanowebs on my acoustic guitar and didn't have the fuzz problem at all. They felt like normal, flexible strings and sounded amazing. I realize they weren't bass strings, but if the coating is applied in the same manner, I'd presume it would happen on the guitar strings as well.

I like the Elixirs in general. The have an absolutely un-matchable sound on my Cirrus 5 and I like the feel. Plus they last nearly forever, it seems.

Hey the D'Addarios are also good strings, just different, lower cost and won't last as long.
