I believe the Elixirs are actually re-branded D'Addarios with a dental-floss coating...I'm not kidding. The premise is that they're easy on your fingers, easy on your frets. All I know is the set (polyweb?...nanoweb?...Jack Webb?) on my 55-94 has grown hair.

No, they won't eat your frets. In fact, if your bass has decent quality fretwire, NO strings will eat your frets. Not even Roto's, in spite of their unfair reputation for doing so.

Yes, I was considering getting Rotos, but Iv read here, the frets being damaged from the Rotos. My p-bass is the Standard Precision.

Most people on here have owned basses for decades that never had the frets wear out from strings. I wouldn't worry about it.
