elixir strings for me ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I've been a roundwound user for 5 years but lately I'm getting tired of all the fret noise and string noise, none of my bandmates notice it but me, but its driving me crazy ! I do practice on my technique but even when I fret I get this soft "clank" that drives me nuts.

I've been searching around this forum and the elixir nanowebs caught my eye. I want punch and growl, I love mids . I don't want : Thump, boomyness, fret noise or excessive "zing". Are the elixir nanowebs right for me ? I found around here that they are "not as bright" which is something I like since I rarely slap.

I use both the elixirs and d'addario EXP coated strings and favor the elixirs because the EXP's seem to be a little brighter when new then the elixirs and have more of a "plastic" feel to me. It also seems as though the elixirs last a little bit longer. As for sound i think sometimes that really has to do with the bass you are playing but over all the Elixirs do have slightly less "zing" then standard nickel round wounds.

Is the noise an EQ thing? I use elixirs, which I love, but if I start hearing too much clackady-clack when I'm playing I most time take some treble out and use a little bit softer touch.

Elixrs are not my favorite string. I use DR Lo-Riders and Hi-Beams on all of my basses. I do have Elixrs that came on my Schecter and I lover them! They feel smooth and they still sound new after a year straight of gigging and practice. They have a clackety clack to them, but not as much fret rattle noise as normal round wounds.
Try them. I think they may help.

I use Elixir string on the majority of my basses. I love the tone I get from them. Lot of bass and just enough treble. They last between 7 to 12 months , when they start to have black marks it is time to change them ( or sometime they become hairy ). I know they are expensive but they live long enough and feel smooth.
