elixir strings sent back.

first time ive used these elixir strings. 2 weeks into using them. the coating around where your right hand is has all come off. gave elixir an email they said it wasnt suposed to happen and are sending me some new ones.
happy days. im sure the same thing will happen again though

They might. The strings, IIRC, are made by Gore Inc. who also makes dental floss and GoreTex garment insulation. The worn Elixir strings will have the same appearance as worn Glide dental floss...'cuz its essentially the same stuff. I had the same situation a few years back. I had a set that frayed quickly, was returned for QC inspection, and replaced @ N/C with a set that responded identically. I pretty much laughed it off and haven't used them since. Maybe the technology has improved since then.

i just purchased a super light set .040 - .095 with a .125 (tapered) for my 5. i was told they are one of the best sounding strings on the market. i'll be looking out for what you guys just described.

Don't get me wrong...they sound and feel great. I have a worn set on a recently acquired Lakland 55-94. Little thin in spots but still have a lot of life. Guess they need to be shaved once a week or something.

They might get a worn looking spot over the area where you pluck the string.but they won't loose thier tone.I can typically get 5 months out of a set on my main gigging bass before they need changing.Great string!

I'll be interested in this. I made a trade for an Ibanez ATK and those come with Elixirs stock. I'm anxious to try them out. If they are made by a dental floss company, then the strings themselves are probably made by one of the other string companies like D'Addario or Ernie Ball and then they put their coating on them.

I tried Cleartones and thought they sounded awful. I had them on my bass for about 20 minutes. Sold them on TB.

If you play with a pick,they will wear in that spot,but again,that doesn't mean they will go dead. Use you ears,not your eyes.

I have, at both ends! It wore off at where I pluck (not using a pick) and at around fret 5-7 on the neck. They still sounded fine, just looked like they had a skin problem

. I replaced them anyway because it looked horrible, and I was also bored of the tone as they had been on there a long time.

I got an ATK with Elixirs and I really like the feel of them. They aren't as bright as stainless steel strings but they still sound decent. I'm going to put some mileage on these and see how they are. I like the feel of them so much, I'm contemplating putting them on my other bass too. I'm assuming I have the newer "Nanoweb" version.
