Elixir's = Good for downtuning?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone had any luck with downtuning with Elixir's? I really need coated strings, I kill uncoated too quickly, even if I put alcohol on my hands or hand sanitizier (I sweat.)

Any have any luck?

I tune only half step down and they do OK, in fact, better than most (I use 45-100 sets). Not sure that's what you meant by down tuning though.

I tune between drop D and drop C a lot and they're fine.

My band normally tunes in drop C but when I do other stuff I tune back up and I couldn't recommend another brand of string more.

I use Elixirs alot. Currently using a 45-105 set of Polyweb on a jazz bass, downtuned to DGCF and they sound great. I keep them downtuned on that bass BTW. From what I have read strings will lose significant life with repeated downtuning, but keeping them at a specific tension precludes that.

I don't see why Elixirs wouldn't downtune just fine. I've been learning songs recently, and most songs are either in standard tuning or a half-step down. Either way, my bass and strings sound fine.

The feel of Elixirs is what I especially love about them.

I run elixers on my Soundgear and they're great in drop d or tuned down a half step.
