Elixirs on Fretless

Put a set of Elixir's with the "nanoweb" coating on my fretless R-Bass. Im very please with the sound: rich, complex and no unwanted buzz.

The bass came with a set of what looked like D'Addarios round wounds. While I like them on my fretted, there was too much finger noise and "zing" for the fretless.

I was thinking about putting flats on the bass but took a shot with the Elixirs. I've never used them before and I'm pleasantly surprised. Its definitely a "roundwound" sound but the coating must take a little edge off. Perfect for the fretless.

Here's the bass before the new strings (looks the same now but sounds different)

I used to use Elixir Polyweb strings on my old Acacia fretless, and thought they were great. Now I understand that they don't make those any more, but something else called Nanoweb. Does anyone know what the difference is? Should I invest in a set for my Benavente fretless 6? (the Elixir strings are insanely expensive here in Norway)

Oh, beautiful bass, by the way!

Nanoweb strings have a thinner coating and sound a bit more like "normal" strings. Personally I don't like them as much as the old Polywebs, but they are still great and last for-freakin-ever.

Had some Elixirs on a fretless once, it worked out pretty well.

i think the polyweb was more like plastic coating--the the nano's much more like a regular roundwound with an extraordinarily smooth feel.

i think they'd be sweet on the benavente 6 fretless.

Thanks. They are probably nice, yes. I should probably buy a set.

is that a defretted bass? because you can see the ´grooves´, or the remainder of them, in the fingerboard

just looked at the Elixir site and the Polywebs are still available. Think I will order set for my Frankenjazz fretless with a maple board.

interesting to see that they still do Polyweb. I couldnt find any 5 string sets--from their site it seems they only do four.

Im still very happy with the 5 string nanoweb set. They're really nice for the fretless

"interesting to see that they still do Polyweb"

I'm not so sure they do still carry the Polyweb. I know your link shows a page with poly on it, but if you go to ELixir's main page, then hit the link for Bass website, it does not show poly under the product line. I suspect that the link you provided is an old one that they just haven't taken down yet??

They don't make Polywebs anymore, I emailed them last year and they said it was some marketing decision to discontinue them. Balls.

Either way it's weird they are still on the website, but I can't find them for purchase anywhere so I suppose their webdouche just isn't up to speed.
