Elixir's Unwinding?

Sign in to disble this ad
I bet that title caught your eye... seriously, it looks like the goretex coating is starting to peeel off. The bass was sitting in Samash's warehouse for about a year before I got it. Its about a few months old of light usage. Does this mean they need to be replaced or can I just ignore this as the coating drying out from a year of being strung up ...

It happens to all Elixers eventually. It just means your Elixers are losing their magic protection and will proceed to die like normal strings, since their windings are exposed.

Nothing critical. If the tone isn't what you like, try a new set of strings. If the tone is fine, keep 'em on.

Thank You

Ok thanks, I noticed the sound was significantly different when this happened (which seems like it was almost overnight). I bought a new pair... I'll throw them on. Thanks!
