Ernie Ball Flats Users?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently got a new pack of EB GroupII flats off tb and when I installed them on one of my basses they had this sonic kind of wah overtone to them, I let them sit for about a day and it was still there. I took them off and put it on another bass and the same thing is happening. I have never used eb flats, is this something that just happens with these strings and goes away in time? Or is it possessed or something?

Twisted string, or strings too close to pickups is what I'm thinking.

When I first put my set on my SR4, they didn't sound that great to me, either. Is it kind of a high-pitched dissonance? In my case, it took about a week or so for the flats to settle in, now they sound just great - punchy and precise fundamental, zero fret noise.

I've never heard that sound w/ my EB flats. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced enough to know what could cause such problems. Perhaps your bass or strings are indeed possessed!

This seems like the most likely explanation. Keep in mind that flats have more magnetic material per foot than an equivalent round so you may need to back off you pickup height a bit.

Yeah, I never had any trouble with mine either.
