Ernie Ball Hybrid

I play alt rock in my band requiring punchy lows, slapping and strumming. I was wondering if Ernie Ball Slinky Hybrids would suit my style as they have .105 and .85 for the E and A and .65 and .45 for the D and G.

I was thinking thicker gauges for the punchier lows and slapping and thinner gauges for the popping and strumming. Anyone had any experience with these strings?

Also, I play an LTD F-404 35" bass. Would these strings fit a 35"? I have some D'addarios on it at the moment and I guess i bought the wrong scale strings as the E starts getting thinner before it reaches the nut

Cheers, Rick

Ernie Ball strings are terrible in my experience. They don't sound very good, they corrode very quickly, and they break earlier than they should.

Not to mention that you're really overanalyzing this anyway. Any nickel round wound string will sound just fine for a rock band. It doesn't make that much of a difference.

Edit: A bunch of other brands make a hybrid set, too.

Dean Markley Blue Steel's are an option....stainless steel and will sound "zingier" but have a tendency to wear the frets down quicker.

I don't care for the EB hybrid's. I use the regular slinky's.

Blue Steels have always been my string of choice, for both guitar and bass. I think they make a hybrid set, too.

Thanks for the replys everyone.

I've had a good experience with EB regulars before so I'll give the hybrids a go.

I've been using EB hybrid for years on my 73 jazz bass. Come to think of it, it's still the same set. No problems, still sounds good ,played every day and giged.

It just seems like you already had your mind made up and weren't seriously asking for advice.
