Ernie Ball Power Slinkys 55-110

hey Tbers!
let me describe my bass and ask your opinions about getting more low end. i have a 80's BC Rich Bich that has been a great playing bass for 24 years now. It has a Schaller Chrome bridge w/ rolling spacers and its had some EMGs (P style in it for some time). I've even had it refretted completely this year. However, I've had trouble with the EMGs with low end output ever since I put them in. They're active pups ( and yes of course i use fresh batteries LOL!)but it seems like unless I use Boomers 45-105(the heaviest Boomers), I never seem to get the Lows i need. I'm thinking of trying the EB Power Slinkys. I love the Hex core stuff and even this past week I put on a set of DR LO-Riders but even though they have great quick action, the low end just ain't there. Am i stuck with using Boomers and their relatively short life?
BTW, my rig is NOT the issue. All my other basses sound excellent through it.

I've got a set of power slinkys on my Fender Jazz atm, from what I've found they are a very zingy type of string with a decent low end response but I dont know if its enough for you. The tension on this set is VERY high, although it lets me set the action low they are very stiff and I find them quite hard to play in standard tuning as the tension is too great.

Hope this helps!

I have a 5-string set on my Ibanez, and I'm not yet completely convinced by them. They are pretty 'zingy' with quite good harmonics & transients, but the genuine bottom end isn't always all that. For the type of music you're playing, have your tried Rotosound Swings? In my experience they're a bit deeper but more importantly give a lot more clank.

Also - you'll need to set your bass up for them. When I put this set on, it raised the action by a good 3mm at the 12th fret.

thanks for the replies. i'm weighing the pros and cons. i like a lot of tension in some ways. i can do the triplets and fast runs that way with really low action, it seems easier imo.
thanks again for the ideas. i guess i'm gonna end up switching the pups to some SD 1/4 pounders and see what that does. i got to thinking if i spend 65 bucks it's like only spending the cost of 3 sets of strings. i should probably do that and get it over with. but i'm still probably going w/ nickel strings afterward.

I put them on my Ernie Ball SUB 4 and tune the bass to C G C F and love the tension. They sound great as well. I wouldn't use them tuned to EADG, WAY to much tension for my liking.

If you want to try a heavy string ( 45-105 are not the heaviest Boomers) they make a (55-115) G.H.S.Boomers set that is super heavy gauge. I used to use the Rotosound Swing Bass 66 set (45-105) along time back and I do remember them having good bottom when they broke in.

Hi, Not sure about more low end but power slinkys (110-55) sound awesome , if you (and your bass) can deal with the high tension then these strings are well worth the money , awesome zing and plenty of hi mids

I have them on my P bass tuned D-G-C-F and it works great..I also have them in standard tuning on my HWY 1 jazz bass. It's the lowest action I've gotten on that bass without fret buzz...absolutely love them, but they don't last very long. Probably gonna try some D'addario XLs 55-110 cause they're a little cheaper on Juststrings.com
