Ernie Ball Question

I've been playing flatwounds for a few years now (currently Fenders 50-65-85-100), but am starting to do heavier music and am really starting to crave a more roundwound sound for some songs. My bass is a Fender Marcus Miller that's been modified with EMG pickups and an Aguilar pre. I usually pick, but can fingerpick as well (I usually don't, partly because I have fingernails for classical guitar, and partly because I just like the sound of a heavy nylon pick).

All that said, after a lot of investigation (and already knowing that I don't like D'Addarios) I've pretty much settled on getting EB Hybrid Slinkies, but am still a bit torn between going with the Regular Slinkies. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this? I'd just try them all, but I have some sessions to do next week!

Hey, my first post, seems like a great site

I use Hybrid Slinkys and love them. For the money, IMO, these are the best bass strings available. I used to use Rotosounds and D'Addario and never thought of EB's until I bought my Stingray and they came with Hybrid Slinkys, they were great and I've been using them ever since.

I use Super Slinkys on my SR4 and regular Slinkys on my SR5. I have tried some other brands on these basses and have found that I greatly prefer the Slinkys on Stingrays.

I recently put a set of Super Slinkys of my Jazz fretless and am so far very impressed. I always used stainless steels on fretless like Rotosounds or Blue Steels. The Slinkys are not quitre as agreesive sounding as stainless steel strings but there is a really nice warmth and growl that is very pleasing.

I've got Hybrid Slinkys on all my Bongos. They feel so smooth and sound great. They have all the good points of roundwounds and none of the bad.

Thanks for the feeback guys. I put some Hybrids on last night and loved the sound right out of the box. It's exactly the kind of string response and timbre I was looking for, although I find myself staying mostly on the E and A strings because the D/G poke out a bit more (brighter/punchier) than I like. Either I'll get used to that sound and/or just reserve those strings for when I want them to poke out and/or the strings will settle in a little more or I'll just give the Regulars a try. Still, I couldn't be happier with the feel and sound of these strings. The way they sustain is fantastic, and they have that metallic-in-a-good-way sound I was looking for without being overly bright and thin sounding. They also handle eq and overdrive really well, and I got a variety of good sounds with different kinds of picks as well as my fingers. Nice.
