Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys Dead After a Couple of Weeks?

Sign in to disble this ad
Folks,

I am a big proponent of Ernie Ball strings and I have always played them (or quickly returned to them after being dissapointed with other brands).

Anyways, I have been playing the hell out of 4 or 5 of my basses and I am noticing I kill strings in 2-3 weeks. This has happened quite often lately.

I called EB and their customer service is the best. They immediately shipped free replacement sets for the two basses I noticed the short string life on the most. BUT... they didn't help with my problem. I am not interested in switching strings every couple of weeks.

Can anyone recommend a string that is as twangy as EBMM but lasts longer?

Thanks!

here's a tip for ya on extending string life, imho.

After each set and especially after the gig, use a clean sock and LEMON ENDUST. I have been using it for years. I rub the strings down as well as the necks on my bass'. I get 4 to 5 extra gigs out of my strings.

Some people are like a Slinky.....not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

I'd recommend Hi-Beams.(again) I use to use regular Slinkies but the DR's stay brighter longer. The tone is generally a lot clearer, too.

I won't knock your brand of string, because everyone's got their own opinions. My favorites right now are DR's and...well that doesn't matter does it? I am a huge supporter of bathing strings in denatured alcohol. I have sweat that could tan leather, I kill strings like Raid kills roaches. An 8 hour bath in the juice brings 'em right back. They last just as long as when new, too. Nickel, stainless, flats, rounds, it doesn't matter. This stuff works!

Remind me to call EBMM and complain about my dead strings later!

Are you interested in using SS?

I never found the Slinkys to last very long either.

I use Ken Smith Rock Masters. Very nice across the spectrum and last much longer in my opinion.

I like Ernie Ball strings too, but I've recently switched to D'Adario.

They are very similar, and IMO, just a little better than the Slinkies.
