I love the sound of DR Hi-Beams but I'm tired of paying $30 for a set of strings. In the BassPlayer String Roundup these Ernie Ball Strings matched up nearly identically with the Hi-Beams.

How do they sound? How long do they last? Do you like them? Have you switched to another string? How is the tension?

Not exactly the same situation but I used to be a DR SS LR user, but i switched to EB nickels. I think they have a much better fingerstyle tone, and the best thing about them, IMO, is that the fingerstyle tone sounds best after they are a little worn in. They get really punchy and sound great. I don't have experience with the stainless ones, though. But all in all, I swear by EB strings.

i thought about trying them but i saw the match-up thing and i use Hi-Beams and Fat-Beams so i dont really see a point in going to the Ernie Balls
