What are your favorite strings for the different basses you own? It's almost time for me to buy some new ones and I'd like to hear what everyone likes. I own a P-bass bye the way. |

DO NOT let people say they are floppy, less tension than normal Flat? Yes. ...but not floppy.

My Schecter Hellcat VI (short scale bass VI type) is strung with LaBella flats specially made for this instrument and I couldn't be happier.
My fave flats for my short-scale hollowbody are Pyramid Gold. The most comfortable strings ever (in my opinion), they just feel so posh and "art nouveau" for lack of a better term.
My fave rounds for anything are Sadowsky Blue Label stainless steel.

| | | GHS Boomers (on a '72 Fender Jazz, an '81 G&L L-2000E, an SX P Bass and a Stingray 5)
D'Addario Chromes (on a MIM Jazz and an early-'70s Univox P Bass)
GHS Precision Flatwounds (on a MIM Fender P Bass)
GHS Brite Flats (on a fretless '71 Fender P Bass)
All roundwound DRs are lacking in the midrange dept., to me.
D'Addario nickel roundwounds have a "piano string" tone that I don't like, plus they're too stiff for me.
Rotosound Swing Bass strings (stainless steel roundwounds) go dead too fast, eat frets and are too bright (again, for me).
I tried the LaBella "Jamerson set" once... two months later, I was able to take my arm out of a sling. |
