Question Extended Range String Mix

Sign in to disble this ad
Upon breaking my G and D string of my Edge 6 string, I realized I had no spare strings laying about, so, in order to continue with rehearsal, I quickly snatched the two Flatwounds (my set was all roundwounds until this point) From my Fender squire I had lying around. they sounded fantastic when I set them up, so I decided to steal all the strings from it and set my extra roundwounds aside to use at a later point.
So my Low B and high C are roundwounds, and the middle EADG are flats. In the music I often play I find this setup useful, because I can hit those nice pure notes of the flats, then get a good growl from the B or a tapped note on the C when needed.
Does anyone else use a string setup like this?

I have for a little bit, but only because I couldn't find a satisfactory low B or high C to go full flats on it. I switched back to rounds, though.
