Extending a string?

Is it possible? because If i put strings on my ibanez the G string won't reach the tuning post on my squier

Cut off an old string a few inches from the ball end, and then attach your G string to that ball end as securely as possible.

I did this once with a set of strings that had a weak section between the nut and tuning peg that broke, making the string too short to tune up.

I had this problem, I just pretty much tied two strings together (between the nut and tuner). Looked like crap, but it worked perfect. Simple as that. The only thing you have to make your mind up about is whether your egos can handle an ugly knot in the headstock.
