I'd suggest a .174 for F# at 36" - you'll have roughly 38 pounds of tension. The gauges in my suggested set are;

.174 .130 .098 .073 .055

I suggest Circle K strings as well. Got them on my p-bass tuned F#BEA.

Just curious though, what makes you (or your luthier) say the strings from octave4plus weren't made properly?

Does Circle K Strings produce flatwounds in 'odd' gauges as well?

I won't personally say octave4plus makes their strings improperly, and I think Gary is an awesome dude who is full of knowledge, but I have have used both Circle K and O4P on a six string for F#. Circle K was leagues ahead in terms of tone/sound, both acoustically and plugged in. I found the O4P strings were really bassy and full of boom. When playing live and recording I didn't like how it sounded so I had to adjust my tone and turn everything down. With Circle K, I didn't have to touch a dial. Everything was perfect.

I know a lot of people (mostly guitarists) who cannot get enough of O4P strings. My buddy Cameron won't use anything else because he needs the 0.008 (or 0.007).

Here's the choice of 'balanced tension' sets: Circle K Strings - Medium Balanced 6 Strings
Be sure to order the 'medium' length for 36"/37". Also i recommend a balanced set as it has equal tension on each string.

Thx Thunder and knuckle.

Matt- english is not my first language so I'll do my best to explain.
First the strings felt uneven and you could see it easily just by unrolling them. You could feel bumps from the winding all along the strings.
Second I asked the ball end to be smaller not like a superstep string but I didnt want a full .168 on the bridge, a proper step up was impossible.
I returned the strings and got a refund but Gary said his strings were perfect. I ordered the same set a year later and he refused it...

I noticed the bumpy inconsistencies as well, but I think it's just the hand-winding process that produces it.

All I know is that the luthier said this set was crap and preferred to install the old one. He didnt say Gary was crap only this particular set.
