On a serious note...they will eat your fretboard. Extremely coarse string (I use them on all my fretted basses...they are great!) but they will definitely tear up a fretless if you even slightly dig in.
If you treated your fretless board with Epoxy or something similar then you wouldn't have to worry.

How about tone? How do the Fatbeams perform on a fretless bass in terms of feel, sound and mwah factor?
I'm surprised that they're considered a coarse string. With their much-touted "compression-winding" process, aren't DRs supposed to be relatively smooth and easy on the frets and fingerboards?

Reason: "...and fingerboards?"

nevertheless, i took the fatbeams off and went with nickel lo-riders, which i've used now for 4 months with very little visible fretboard gouging
the lo-riders sound great too, fwiw, just a bit more mellow than the fat beams
--didn't mention i slap on this one too occasionally

But I'm considering them because I very much like a more aggressive fretless tone - and because the ebony board on my fretless has an epoxy finish. So I'm not too worried about wear and tear...
What's your take on the overall tone? How about feel? Coarse enough to interfere with playing glissando? Or not really an issue?

honestly, the only time i ever even noticed the coarseness of the fat beams was when i would switch over to a bass with flats! in other words, not an issue for me...
they sound great--very full sound with good emphasis on highs without getting thin, and can get really 'growly' which i dig, and with your epoxied board, you should be fine for a long time--unless you go freddie king on it with the string bending, of course

Anybody have a comparison of Fatbeams to Rotosound (swing bass, the ss ones)?
I love Rotos on my fretless, and was hoping someone may have tried the 2...
thanks
