Fatbeams ball ends?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone, I recently purchased a set of DR Fat Beams from Manny's music store in New York City. I was wondering if anyone knew if DR recently made a change to the manufacturing process of these strings because the G string ball end is gray/black while the others are gold. It struck me as being quite odd as I have purchased a set of Fat Beams a few months ago and clearly recall them being all gold ball ends. I wasn't sure if Manny's music had just packed up a bunch of random strings together and put them in the box, especially since the DR Fat Beam set does not come covered in plastic wrapping. I was just wondering if Manny's music is not being honest in selling a product and just throwing together strings from a different set or if DR has actually changed the manufacturing process and decided to make the G string ball end a different color than the rest. Any input?

I just put on a new set of the DR flats and all had the "gold" ends.

I have a set of Fat Beams at home. I just looked and all 4 strings have the gold ball-end.

Thanks for the response guys, kind of sucks to know that Manny's music is not being honest about their business. Waste of 30 dollars.

Ask DR officially by email, and print out their answer. Bring your strings back to Manny's and ask for a few sets as a compensation.

Might be a good way for you to try some other sets by DR that you wouldn't normally risk to purchase.

All gold on every set I've used, just strung a six up yesterday.

That's quite a jump to a conclusion, don't ya think?

Does the string sound different? Does the string seem out of place in volume, or tone, to the rest of the set?

Isn't it possible that the ball end used (you know--one of probably 20,000 manufactured that day at the ball end factory) maybe missed the gold coating stage and made it through QC, in error?

Why not simply write to DR and ask them to send a replacement instead of inventing conspiracy on Manny's part?

Because, you know--the way to profit is to spend all your time perfecting the ol' "G string switcheroo" path to richness doesn't really sound like the right scenario here...

I guess you are right bassmonkee, no need for me to jump to conclusions. It just seemed a little weird that out of all the DR string sets that I've bought, this is the first one to have the weird ball end. No big deal though and my apologizes if I've offended any loyal custumer of Manny's. I'll string them up and see how they are. Thanks for all the replies.
