Favorite Brand & Gage of Strings

What strings do you prefer? Gage, brand and on what Bass you use them on?

I like Fodera, R. Cooco and DR Sunbeams. 45-105 on most of my Basses but I do use 40-100 on two fretless Basses.

I usually use DR's or D'Addarios though I'll try any string once. Always 45-100 gauge sets.

50-105 D'Addario Chromes on my Squier Affinity Precision.
45-132 D'Addario Chromes on my Squier Affinity Jazz V.

Lovin' the sounds I get from both. I'm a flatwound man now!!

DR FatBeams 45-100 on the 97 L2K fretted (the #1)
DR SunBeams 45-100 on the fretless blank-plank 96 L2K
DR FatBeams 45-100 on the 82 L1K
Dean Markley Nickel Blue Steels 45-105 on the 84 L2K
Fender flats 45-105 on the 97 US P-bass

Every bass sounds different, and different strings can 'fill holes' in the sound, and bring out the best in an instrument. Some strings will accentuate problems with some basses-the 84 has a lot of bottom and low-low mids, due to it's mahogany body, and Ernie Ball strings (deep bass, and sharp highs, very scooped mids) sound terrible on that bass- all bottom end and clank. The Markleys are very mid-focused, with a tight bottom and even top, so the bass sounds more balanced- nice smooth mids, and no gack-y sounds on the G strng at the 5-9th fret.

If i had to pin it down to one string, I'd go for the FatBeams. They've sounded good on everything I've tried them on.

I use LaBella Hard Rockin Steel on my 7 string fretted and 6 string fretless. Both use a .118 low B and a .095 E. My fretted 5 has LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass flats (medium set... don't recall the gauge, they've been on a long while and just starting to get broke in).

a lot of TBers have answered already in this thread stickied here What kind of strings do you use?

I'm going to stick with SIT Powerwounds for the price, the warm/bright tone, and longevity.

EADG = 45 / 65 / 85 / 105
DGCF = 50 / 70 / 90 / 110
BEADG = 45 / 65 / 85 / 105 / 130TW

D'Addario Chromes Flats 40-60-80-100 (I like them smooth and light)

For rounds, 45-65-85-105 (If I ever use rounds again, which I kinda doubt)

Ive been using Ernie Ball Power Slinkys recently on my Fender Am. Jazz.

They're heavy gauge (110/95/75/55 i believe) so they have a nice taught feeling, not sure if they are technically higher tension, but they feel less noodley than lower gauge strings. Plus they are easy to slide up, whereas the DR low riders i used to use had a very harsh feel to them, made it not easy to slide up strings.

The DR Low Riders are great strings, but i feel like I've got a good balance of tone and playability in the Ernie Ball Powers.
